Mindful Engagement 2020 - Session 11

MindfulEngagement2020.jpg

Join Hugh Byrne, Kaira Jewel Lingo, and George Kinder for an interactive mindfulness support group for social activists throughout 2020.

Mindfulness, compassion, loving-kindness, and equanimity are a powerful and needed medicine for the challenging times we are living in. These qualities of heart help us meet our difficult mind states and emotions in a balanced way, allowing us to hold all we are experiencing without attachment, with kindness and without judgment. These practices also provide support to engage wisely and compassionately with the suffering of the world, strengthening our resilience as we work for justice, peace, and a sustainable future.

Many of us will need mindfulness practice as we engage in political or social action throughout 2020. To help us meet our experience skillfully and engage in wise action in this period, Hugh Byrne, Kaira Jewel Lingo, and George Kinder are partnering on a series of monthly online group meetings with the following intentions:

  • To deepen skills and practices to respond to all that is arising within us and in the world in these times;

  • To support our active engagement in working for justice, peace, and a more compassionate and sustainable world—for example, through engagement in the 2020 U.S. electoral process, supporting vulnerable individuals and communities under attack, working for compassionate immigration policies, racial justice, gun safety, a sustainable planet, climate justice, democratic freedoms, ending corruption, poverty and war, and other forms of engagement.

  • To provide a venue for community to be together to support one another and break down the illusion of separation that can easily arise in difficult times.

Facilitators: Hugh Byrne, meditation teacher and expert in habit change; Kaira Jewel Lingo, mindfulness teacher and spiritual mentor; George Kinder, meditation teacher and Golden Civilization Conversations founder

Golden Civilization Conversations Facilitator Workshop

In light of the coronavirus crisis, and the turmoil the world is experiencing due to shelter in place orders and the ensuing economic depression, our collective consciousness could not be more primed for changing the world. Armed with a comprehensive, yet easy-to-use, conversation framework that has proven to be multi-national and bipartisan in its success, our Golden Civilization Conversationalists can be agents for innovative and sustainable global change. Our goal? To bring greater levels of freedom to the world and create a true participative democracy!

This is a great opportunity to join a community of teachers and learn how to host conversations in your community and keep them going once you've started.

As a resource to those who are interested in starting their own Golden Civilization Conversations, but may feel overwhelmed by the idea of gathering a group or helping to motivate that group to continue to meet despite busy schedules and the global crisis, George Kinder, the founder of this grassroots conversation movement, will be hosting a recurring Golden Civilization Conversation via Zoom that will be open to the public.

The purpose of this recurring group will be to inspire and provide resources for participants interested in starting their own groups.

Designated time during each session will be spent on providing the framework, resources, and inspiration to help budding conversationalists lead their own recurring conversations and grow the movement. Mindfulness practice will also be incorporated into these meetings, in addition to the Golden Civilization Conversation itself, which has been proven to help activists renew the energy they commit to promoting change in their various political and social channels.

Providing a platform where the members of this bottom-up activism conversation movement inspired by George’s latest book, A Golden Civilization & The Map of Mindfulness, can share one space, these virtual conversations should foster an environment rich with the energy, motivation, innovative thinking, and commitment needed to bring about systemic change within a generation.

Facilitator: George Kinder, author, thought-leader, Golden Civilization Conversations founder, and Father of Life Planning

  • To deepen skills and practices to respond to all that is arising within us and in the world in these times;
