Cultivating Wisdom Conversation: Vanessa S. King and Julian Powe

Please join us for Vanessa King’s “Wisdom of Science of Well-Being,” her exposition of the science of well-being, and her challenge and invitation to embrace this evidence both in the conduct of our individual lives and in reimagining our surrounding worlds of work, community and politics. It is well worth – indeed really important! – to listen to Vanessa on this topic.

Vanessa is a leading international light in the movement for well-being: Board member at Action for Happiness; author of The Ten Keys to Happier Living and co-author of the forthcoming Creating the World We Want to Live In - Positive Psychology for a Brighter Future; and a regular international speaker on the topic (indeed, do watch her Tedx Talk, The Ten Keys to Happier Living, as a companion to this conversation!).

Cultivating Wisdom Conversation: Harry Huston and Julian Powe

Harry Hutson, leader, author (‘Putting Hope to Work’, 2006; ‘Navigating Organisational Crisis’, 2016), executive coach and many other things besides, is the guest for this conversation in the Cultivating Wisdom series.

Harry takes us on an extraordinary conversational arc. At the core of his exploration is the notion that we can BOTH choose hope AND hope can choose us, in its inherent wisdom.

Wisdom Conversation: Dave Barrett and Julian Powe

Dave Barrett, Owner of Turning Moment, applied his deep thinking exposition to bring us ‘Wise Conversation.’ Perfect timing as our capacity to converse well is absolutely core to our ability to be fully present and wise with others and ourselves.

After a long career in conservation, Dave now dedicates his working life to the art of conversation, operating in the hugely demanding world of conflict resolution, mediation and organisational healing.

Wisdom Conversation: George Kinder and Julian Powe

In this latest installment of the Cultivating Wisdom Conversation Series, author, activist and leader of the Life Planning and Golden Civilisation movements, George Kinder brings vividly to life his notion that wisdom is the selfless understanding of the present moment and the impermanence that surrounds it; situates this notion in the context of these most challenging of times; and gives us intimate access to his own personal spiritual journey, his own exploration of wisdom throughout his life.

Wisdom Conversation: Tim Heath and Julian Powe

Chair of the Blake Society, Tim Heath draws mesmerisingly on the work and philosophy of William Blake (1757 -1827) – and broader culture (including cricket!), art and literature- to explore the spirit, nurturing and value of a dissenting imagination. This is such an important topic at a time of heightening consciousness, with humanity now seeming to expand its sense of what is needed, what is right and wrong, what is missing, and what is possible. Tim offers perspectives on both principle and practice.

Wisdom Conversation: Adam Wells and Julian Powe

Adam Wells bringing alive for you ‘The Wisdom of the Camino de Santiago’ – a perfect companion on the notion of liminal space, since the Camino is nothing if not a liminal space. A Camino mentor, Adam talks about the inner pilgrimage of the 500 mile Camino trail through Northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela, ‘a powerful catalyst for changing our personal narrative’. He tells several stories about other walkers, and draws on his own recent personal transformational journey, bookended by his own walks of the trail in 2011 and 2019.

Wisdom Conversation: Alison Hogan and Julian Powe

Here is our second conversation in the Cultivating Wisdom Series: Alison Hogan exploring in 25 minutes the notion of ‘Dwelling in the Empty Space of ‘not knowing.’ You will hear Alison talk about her own journey in becoming more at ease with resting and dwelling in ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’, and her respect for leaders who have learnt to be more open, honest and humble about themselves and their worlds. For her, both knowing and doubting is at the core of wise leadership.

Conversations on Cultivating Wisdom: A Video Series

A very warm welcome to a series of brief conversations and blog posts exploring the notion of wisdom in the 2020s! Over the next three months or so, our conversations will draw on ancient and modern sources across many spheres, including leadership thinking, great literature, spiritual writings and learning, philosophy, psychology and mindfulness. These conversations sit alongside and in support of many other initiatives in this realm; for instance, a virtual Centre for Wisdom was hosted on 1 May 2020.
