George Kinder Hosts a Recurring Golden Civilization Conversation

As a resource to those who are interested in starting their own Golden Civilization Conversations, but may feel overwhelmed by the idea of gathering a group or helping to motivate that group to continue to meet despite busy schedules and the global crisis, George Kinder, the founder of this grassroots conversation movement, is hosting a recurring Golden Civilization Conversation via Zoom that will be open to the public.

Golden Civilization Conversation: Anne Carolyn Klein and George Kinder

On Tuesday, George was joined by Anne Carolyn Klein for a Golden Civilization Conversation.

Their deep and probing interview covers topics from Anne’s books, both translations and Buddhist scholarly works, and her inspiration to write them, Anne’s identification as a feminist, and her work at Rice University and Dawn Mountain. They speak in depth about Buddhism, covering themes of interdependence, great completeness, and freedom from bias. When it comes to their discussion of A Golden Civilization, they discuss similarities to the Golden Rule, and how this kind of change, though it can start from a small place, requires big systematic change. They close with the importance of imagination and belief that we can get there.

Golden Civilization Conversation: Traci Ruble and George Kinder

Yesterday, George was joined by Traci Ruble of Sidewalk Talk for a Golden Civilization Conversation via Facebook Live, the first in his second season of conversations via Facebook Live. Golden Civilization Conversation: George Kinder at Matsunaga Institute

As a part of his world tour for his book, A Golden Civilization and the Map of Mindfulness, George visited The University of Hawaii at Mānoa and gave several talks there to differing audiences. On Thursday afternoon, George delivered his Keynote, Life Planning, Mindfulness, and A Golden Civilization at a Chai Time event at the historic East-West Center, sponsored by the Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

With over 35 people in the room, George spoke about his life planning work and how the changing world around him led him to life plan civilization. He then facilitated a Golden Civilization Conversation. The group discussed their vision for A Golden Civilization and felt committed to action steps they suggested during the conversation.

George also spoke at the Shidler College of Business to assembled faculty, students, and staff, followed by a break-out Golden Civilization Conversation. His final event was a private client event for 3D Wealth Advisors, where he facilitated a breakout Golden Civilization Conversation as well.

A Golden Civilization Conversation for Those Over 75

Last week, in a local bookstore in Tempe, Arizona, Mary Zimmerman hosted a public Golden Civilization Conversation for her local community, asking that her friends, especially those over 75 years of age, come together for a heartfelt discussion about their vision of a Golden Civilization.

Mary, having worked closely with George, has read A Golden Civilization and the Map of Mindfulness, and already participated in two Golden Civilization Conversations, one in Irvine, California, and the other in Laguna Beach.  She has hosted a Golden Civilization Conversation with a diverse audience in central Phoenix and one informally with four generations of her family in Austin, TX.  She was inspired how each achieved stimulating, apolitical conversation.

Inspired by her sister, who would have been 75 this year, Mary wanted to gather an insightful group with some real life experience (those at least 75) to hear their great wisdom, insight, and perspective.

The resulting group shared a non-judgmental participatory conversation about what they did for fun growing up (and where), what they wanted from a Golden Civilization, one thing from the past they wanted to bring forward, and their action step to live into their shared vision for a Golden Civilization.

Golden Civilization Conversation with Dr. Charlie Easmon and George Kinder

This week was the season one finale of the Golden Civilization Conversation Facebook Live series. George was joined by Dr. Charlie Easmon of Your Excellent Health Service.

Watch their conversation to learn the circumstances of how George and Charlie met and the discussion that follows, touching on great leaders, race, Charlie’s Ted X Talk, mental health, and public health.

Dr. Charlie Easmon is an international medical doctor and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Your Excellent Health Service (YEHS), which specializes in travel medicine, occupational health, mental health and aid and development. Charlie is also the Co-Founder of Global Health Action Strategies and Solutions (GHASS), established to provide effective and rapid independent response to global disasters. Golden Civilization Conversation: Jonathon Clark and George Kinder

Yesterday, Jonathon Clark joined George for a Golden Civilization Conversation via Facebook Live. Jonathon is a Registered Life Planner at Aloha Life Planning and author of It Was Never About The Money.

Don’t miss the chance to watch their engaging conversation about The Seven Stages, Impact Investing, and Religion.

Jonathon begins by speaking about his book and how it is based on the idea that money is neutral and oftentimes the reason people can feel trapped by it is often due to lessons or beliefs that we have about it from our childhood, which is similar to George’s own Seven Stages work, specifically Innocence and Pain. From here, the conversation shifts to a discussion of how the presenting problem is never the real problem, organically leading to a discussion about A Golden Civilization from the frame of removing this money mirage and economic conspiracy and striving toward economic integrity. George and Jonathon also speak about the Map of Mindfulness and the Tree of Life and how both the Buddhist and Jewish traditions have an overlap in many universal truths. Jonathon even brings in his expertise in astrology and its recent rise in popularity.

Jonathon has a long career in the financial sector, first working for four years as financial director of an engineering company in Walsall and then 26 years as an independent financial adviser specializing in ethical investment before founding Aloha Life Planning. He has written several articles on business, finance, and impact investing.

They affirm what has been a trend among all conversations, no matter our background, we all seem to want the same, basic principles when it comes to our visions of A Golden Civilization. They also talk about life planning as it relates to creating a society that delivers freedom.

George Kinder Returns to Coventry University for Golden Civilization Conversation

George Kinder was invited back to Coventry University by the Investment Society to deliver his keynote speech, “Life Planning, Mindfulness, and a Golden Civilization,” and to lead a Golden Civilization Conversation break out session.

The energy in the room was infectious as the gathered group of students, faculty, and friends contributed to a conversation of what a Golden Civilization would look like. They then identified the obstacles and the action steps to which they could all commit in an effort to move toward this collaborative vision within a generation.

No doubt related to the palpable inspiration felt in the group, after the session ended, eight attendees expressed interest in helping to continue the conversation over the coming months. As a way to hold each other accountable toward living their vision for a better world, groups that continue to meet are able to move forward in the areas where the group feels most passionate. The Kinder Institute team has already reached out with resources, and both Julian Powe and Adam Wells, who both lead continuing conversations in the UK have offered their help as well.

We look forward to hearing about where this group will decide to apply their vigor in the coming months, stay tuned!

Golden Civilization Conversation: George Kinder and Pamela Siegle

Yesterday, George interviewed Pamela Siegle, a past Golden Civilization Conversation participant about her thoughts on the book A Golden Civilization and the Map of Mindfulness and the growing conversation movement.

Pamela opens with one of her favorite quotes from the book, “you learn to see reality clearly, and in order to see reality clearly, one must keep the mind open, alert, focused, passionate, naive, and engaged,” and the two delve into a conversation about the symbolism and function of open circles, the Quaker tradition of open honest questions, meditation and mindfulness, Parker J. Palmer's Five Habits of the Heart, and kindly speaking truth to power. They close with a discussion of the protest movement in Hong Kong and how social media has been used as a mode of listening.

Pamela is Executive Director of Courage & Renewal Northeast at Wellesley College. She co-developed Leading Together, the Center for Courage & Renewal’s program bringing principals and teacher-leaders together to learn reflective and mindfulness practices and build adult relational trust in their schools.
